Abstract:

117 spider species from 18 families were captured with pitfalls at the Martinswand in the period 23.6.1985-13.10.1986. Including earlier results (THALER, 1985) more than 160 species are now known from this site, among which are numerous rare and zoogeographically important elements. This is due to the rich habitat-structure, with open areas contrasting with xerothermic pine wood. Thermophilic Lycosidae, Gnaphosidae, Clubionidae, Salticidae, Thomisidae are dominant on stony heath and dry meadow. Agelenidae and Linyphiidae s.l. show high activity-density in sheltered areas. The ground spider coenosis of the Martinswand shows high similarity with investigations from 1963/65, both in faunal composition and dominance structure. This documents the value of pitfalls as a reliable method for studying epigaeic spider-communities.
